Car 'scrappage' - post-Budget comment from the Environmental Transport Association
"To describe this scrappage scheme as environmentally friendly is not just greenwash, it is hogwash. Many 10-year-old-cars have plenty of life left in them, so from a climate perspective, to scrap them is money poured down the drain," said Director of the Environmental Transport Association, Andrew Davis.
Alistair Darling announced today that from next month motorists will receive a £2,000 discount on new cars if they trade in a vehicle that is more than 10 years old. The 'scrappage' scheme will remain in place until March 2010.
