LYSANDA REPORTS INCREASED FLEET INTEREST FOR ITS ‘ECO-LOG’ EMISSIONS MONITORING TECHNOLOGY

• Following the completion of a second round of VC  funding, Lysanda  expands
• New staff hired and new contracts signed as Eco-Log goes into production
• Sky-rocketing fuel prices and pressures to reduce emissions forces fleet managers to consider the environmental impact of their vehicles

Lysanda, developers of a pioneering emissions monitoring technology, is expanding following the completion of its £1.25M venture capital funding led by Logispring, the Geneva-based Venture Capital fund.

Lysanda is investing in new staff, new office space and  with the current price of diesel having topped £1.30 per litre, is seeing more and more public and private sector fleets asking for help to minimise operating costs, and at the same time reducing the environmental impact of their vehicles.

Emissions and technology
The Eco-Log technology is software able to read and report the composition of the exhaust gases from a moving vehicle. It uses a totally new method of monitoring the vehicle’s powertrain. Rather than directly measuring the exhaust gases, it predicts what the exhaust content will be from the various inputs to the combustion process. It uses signals obtained from the vehicle’s On-Board Diagnostic system (OBD) which is easily accessible and is used in every road-approved vehicle. Lysanda claims results with accuracy of better than 3% in comparison with exhaust gas analysis.

Typically, the software will be licensed to telematics partners, whose units will transmit the reports to fleet managers. Eco-Log is also available in hardware form as a ‘black box’ pictured below. The black cable connects directly to the vehicles OBDS port.

Growing customer base
Lysanda is negotiating licence agreements with international telematics companies. It is also undertaking projects with organisations including Millbrook Proving Ground, Transport for London (TfL) and several London Boroughs.

Millbrook, one of Europe’s leading sites for vehicle development and demonstration, is running a series of ‘Eco-Drive’ events. These enable fleet customers and the media to practice economic driving under controlled conditions. Eco-Logs installed on each test vehicle reveal the impact of driver behaviour on fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.

Transport for London is evaluating hybrid buses on London’s bus routes, in conjunction with Wrightbus, the Northern Ireland-based bus maker. The Eco-Log is providing information about the actual CO₂ emissions of these buses both on the test track and on London’s streets.

New people, bigger premises
As Lysanda brings the Eco-Log into production it has taken on a second suite at its offices at Braxted Park, Essex to accompany a new batch of recruits. They include:

• Eden Lenga, Sales Director, who has headed sales operations in several international automotive operations.
• David Coates, Sales Manager, who joins from an international Tier 1 supplier of automotive systems.
• Richard Lidstone-Scott, an Applications Engineer formerly at Ford’s research centre at Dunton, and Nicholas Mayer, a Software Engineer with international experience in automotive and aeronautical projects and three new administrative staff.
